Petersburg City Council approved three separate resolutions Wednesday authorizing the city manager to issue bona‑fide offers to purchase property needed for ongoing infrastructure projects.
City staff described the process as the first step in acquisition: each offer is based on a valuation prepared by a certified appraiser and is intended to enable negotiated purchase of parcels needed to complete the courthouse project (139 Monroe Street), a sidewalk/roadway improvement (100 Bolingbrook Street) and a small triangular parcel near 411 2nd Street. City Attorney/Staff explained that if negotiations do not produce an agreement, the city could return to council seeking authority for involuntary acquisition under state statute.
Vice Mayor Hill moved and council approved each resolution by roll call. Staff said maps and diagrams were included in the meeting packet to show the locations and the role each parcel plays in the broader project scope.
