Staff announced a proposed application to the Mid‑America Regional Council (MARC) Planning Sustainable Places (PSP) program for a conceptual corridor study focused on 87th Street. The project boundary under consideration would run roughly from the city’s west limit near Goddard to Lowell and would include assets such as the Central Resource Library, nearby schools, parks and connections to potential redevelopment near city hall.
Staff explained the PSP process: the recent MARC release indicated about $800,000 available for Kansas communities in the 2027 round and a maximum federal award of $150,000 per project with a required minimum 20% local match. Staff noted MARC’s selection committee and the total process (MARC, transportation policy review, and KDOT review) and said the deadline to submit applications is June 22. Committee members expressed support for an expanded study boundary to capture park–library–school connections and encouraged coordination with neighborhood groups and Johnson County agencies.
