Village water-department staff reported progress on advanced oxidation process (AOP) and granular activated carbon (GAC) installations at Wells 1–3 during the Aug. 26 work session. Sampling and testing are underway; Trojan will calibrate the AOP to contaminant levels and the SCADA system will be updated to reflect those set points.
A new steel building to cover the GAC tanks at Well 1–3 is on site and construction was scheduled to start in two weeks, while larger Plant 2 work remains on hold pending completion and stable operation of Well 1–3. John Falbo and other water staff noted that the village has been operating primarily with Wells 2–3 and booster pumps due to a heavy pumping season and that DEC-required inspection of caustic bulk storage tanks was performed by H2M on Aug. 12; the written report is pending.
The board recorded funding developments: County Legislator John Ferretti committed a $1 million grant to offset costs of the new water-treatment systems (the contract was signed and Deputy Clerk Daniel Ruckdeschel is following up on reimbursement requirements). In addition, the village was informed by Congressman Thomas Suozzi of a $1.1 million commitment in the 2025/2026 Federal Budget; the minutes note this is not a reimbursement grant.
Staff said Plant 2 pipe connections into the main trunk lines will be coordinated by PRI when Well 1–3 is fully operational and outside peak season. The minutes record ongoing coordination between the South Farmingdale Water District and the Village to align set points and monitoring during the testing phase.
Next steps include completion of AOP calibration, SCADA adjustments, completion of the GAC-building installation and follow-up required for grant reimbursement filings.
