Farmingdale reports AOP/GAC testing at Wells 1–3; county and federal funding commitments noted

Village water officials reported at the Aug. 19 work session that sampling and testing of the advanced oxidation process (AOP) and granular activated carbon (GAC) installations at Wells 1–3 are underway and that Trojan will calibrate the AOP to reflect contaminant levels. The Village said SCADA setpoints will be adjusted to reflect the AOP contaminant levels and that testing must meet health‑department requirements before full operation.
A new steel building to cover the GAC tanks at Wells 1–3 is on site and scheduled to begin construction in about two weeks; Plant 2 construction remains on hold pending final operation of Well 1–3 and coordinated cut‑ins to trunk lines. The transcript records that PWGC and staff continue to pursue required testing to secure funding from legal settlements and potential federal and county funding.
The Board reported a $1 million commitment from County Legislator John Ferretti to offset costs of the new water treatment systems and noted that Congressman Thomas Suozzi informed the Village of a $1.1 million commitment in the 2025/2026 federal budget. Deputy Clerk Daniel Ruckdeschel is following up on grant requirements for reimbursement, and staff emphasized that some federal funds cited are not reimbursement grants.
