Council unanimously certifies closed session discussion complied with law
Summary
After holding a closed session, the Petersburg City Council voted unanimously on the record to certify that the closed session discussed only the matters announced for closing and recorded no departures from those topics.
After returning from closed session, the council moved to certify the closed session under the certification requirement of the Code of Virginia. Vice Mayor Hill moved to conclude and certify the closed session; Council member Smith Lee seconded the motion.

Council member Cuthbert, Council member Jones, Council member Myers, Council member Smith Lee, Vice Mayor Hill and Mayor Perra each recorded "Aye" on the certification, resulting in a unanimous roll-call certification. The clerk read the required certification language that members should state if they believe the closed session strayed from the announced purposes; no member recorded such a departure on the public record.
