Resident asks Petersburg to support youth track program to curb violence

Fuquan Green, who gave his address as 1035 Augusta Avenue and said he represents Digs and Rising Stars Academy, urged the council to help create track-and-field programming for local youth and to partner with Petersburg Parks and Recreation rather than replace existing services. "I'm here, on behalf of my organization... and I'm here actually for the help of Petersburg Parker Recreation, for to help sponsor to help, you know, build up the city," he said.
Green argued a local track program could reduce youth violence, provide activities for children during the summer and generate revenue for nearby businesses, including stores and hotels. He asked the council to consider working with his organization to fill gaps in existing recreation services.
