Miller said the new package improves officers' ability to acquire targets and maintain field of view and aligns the department with surrounding agencies that have adopted red‑dot optic systems. The total cost reported for the package was $291,692.41 and staff said it would use forfeiture funds to cover the unbudgeted purchase.
Miller described the procurement process: the city posted the request on QuestCDN and received one bid from GT Distributors; Miller said GT had been a prior vendor on weapon purchases and that a prior budgetary estimate had been roughly $40,000 higher than the final bid. He said the department formed an evaluation committee in 2023 and selected an Aimpoint optic as the preferred system; Glock's Gen6 pistol ships with the integrated optic mount. Miller said officers will receive a two-day training course and must requalify under state standards before deployment of the new handguns.
The committee asked about training, tactics, the fate of existing weapons and procurement transparency. Miller said the department is holding the old pistols while exploring disposition options and emphasized the training and requalification plan. Josh (S5) moved that the committee recommend City Council approve the purchase at a price not to exceed $291,692.41; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
