Mayor sets Sept. 2 as final vote date for Rosenberg FY2026 budget after public hearing

Rosenberg's mayor opened a public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2026 budget and, following a staff presentation of recommended adjustments, the council voted to set Sept. 2 as the date for the final budget vote.
Louis Garza, speaking for city staff, told the council the hearing was being held under Texas Local Government Code section 102.006 and that the city had published notice on Aug. 14 and Aug. 21. "This public hearing is held to provide citizens with the opportunity to present their comments regarding the proposed fiscal year 20 26 budget in accordance with local government code section 102.006," Garza said during the presentation. Garza also outlined two changes shown on the meeting screen: a reduction in tax revenue assumptions by $1,476,950 that the council directed be offset with general fund balance, and an insurance-fund adjustment reflecting a final health insurance renewal increase of 20.7%, adding roughly $238,000.
Council member Hector moved to set the final vote date for Sept. 2; the mayor seconded the procedural motion. The mayor called for members to push the green "yes" or red "no" buttons; the council recorded a unanimous vote in favor of setting the hearing's final-vote date. The motion to adjourn the special meeting also passed on a motion by Hector and a second by the mayor.
The public hearing portion of the meeting produced no public speakers who had signed up to comment at this session. City staff said the council may review further changes before the final vote on Sept. 2.
