Council sets Sept. 17 deadline for McIntosh Area School lease or notice to vacate

Several speakers expressed concern about the school's performance and finances. Dennis Devore urged a deadline: "The school should have to sign the lease, or they have to leave in a year." Cllr Deaderick said the school needs the roughly $8,000 generated from parking for the festival, and Vice President Scott Mullikin said, "If we have a school that doesn’t have good ratings, it reflects on the town."
VP Mullikin moved to require the lease be signed by an initial date and later amended the motion to set a Sept. 17, 2024, 5 p.m. deadline; Cllr Jones seconded the amended motion. The council voted to approve the amendment and the requirement; the minutes record the motion passed unanimously.
The action directs town staff to proceed with a one-year notice to vacate if the school does not execute the lease by the new deadline.
