Elk Mound fire department reports nine calls, grants and facility upgrades; RU Clean Sweep draws strong turnout

Fire Chief Fuester reported several operational updates to the Village Board on June 15. The department responded to nine calls during the month and reported membership of 22 volunteers. Chief Fuester said he is working with contractor Todd Ploeckelman on restroom upgrades and with Dennis Johnson to complete auto-close garage door openers for the fire station. He also said an attorney is assisting to finalize a Mary Strand irrigation site to support firefighting operations.
Chief Fuester reported the department was awarded a grant for a new gas detection meter and that construction of a gear dryer for firefighters' gear is nearing completion; the department is also pursuing a grant for new radios. Trustee Terry Stamm reported the June 2 Clean Sweep event organized by Elk Mound/Colfax Solid Waste & Recycling drew positive comments and strong participation, that the RU has hired two new attendants who are in training, and that RU attendant Chloe Anderson recently passed away; the minutes record that she "will be greatly missed."
