County awards two tax-delinquent properties at summer REM sales

The board awarded bids for two tax-delinquent properties offered at the state auction. Treasurer-led recommendations were accepted to direct corporation counsel to prepare quitclaim deeds and authorize the county treasurer to execute the deeds on behalf of Eau Claire County.
Supervisor Dunning explained the first property, 140 Ferry Street, was sold for $35,000; expenses and costs related to getting the property to auction were recovered and any excess will be returned to the original owner if located. The second parcel, a vacant lot on West Menominee Street/Desmaux Lane, sold for $16,900 under similar terms. The board approved both resolutions by voice vote, 23–0.
Supervisor Zook noted the treasurer lists properties at fair market value on the state auction site and the bids in these instances exceeded that listing, which can occur on subsequent auctions.
