Board approves ATV/UTV signage standard and lowers speed limit on County Highway K

The county board approved two transportation-related ordinance changes. First, the board adopted an amendment to consolidate ATV and UTV speed limits so those vehicles use the posted speed limit rather than requiring separate signage; Supervisor Hoekstra said the change reduces confusion for enforcement and the public. "We made the determination just to have one speed limit," Hoekstra explained.
Second, the board approved an ordinance establishing a 45 mph limit on a stretch of County Highway K near a new subdivision south of Fall Creek; the change is intended to improve safety for the developing area. Hoekstra said the request came from residents and the change passed committee unanimously. Both ordinance amendments passed on the floor, each by a 23–0 vote.
Supervisors asked no further questions on either measure and the board moved them forward for implementation per the code amendments read earlier in the packet.
