Board approves $65,900 from opioid settlement for youth prevention programs

The county board approved a resolution authorizing $65,900 in prorated opioid settlement funds for youth prevention in schools and community harm-reduction education for the remainder of 2025.
Supervisor Russell, who explained the resolution, said the allocation follows the settlement task force's recommended plan adopted in June and falls within the plan's Exhibit E parameters. "This resolution is another step in our allocation of funds, that came from the opioid settlement process," Russell said. He noted the funding is primarily for education pieces and that the City-County Health Department could leverage the funds for matching dollars with nonprofit partners.
The resolution was introduced by Supervisor Wilkie and seconded by Supervisor Jenkins. It passed on the board floor with 22 votes in favor and 1 no vote.
