FiPAC members reviewed a rough tally of exit-poll responses from the June 9 referendum — approximately 330 respondents — but Finance Director Beverly Ciurylo said the written comments had not yet been compiled for the commission to review.
Vice Chair Kelley Peck said she did not find the exit poll particularly useful because "less than a quarter of the voters responded," and argued the commission should not present the same budget that had been rejected. Others, including Commissioner James Chakulski, said the poll tally alone did not explain why the vote failed. Town Administrator Mark Walter said many residents "do not understand the difference between operating and capital," and staff will provide clearer information on the town website to help voters understand budget items before the next hearing and referendum.
