Board members discussed next steps for a multi-year Stafford Center expansion study and emphasized the need for more data before pursuing debt-financed construction. One board member said the study should remain active but noted timing matters: "If you're not looking till 2030 to when the debt is retired, ... you would not be ready to issue probably debt until late '29 to '30," he said, urging caution on a hotel-centered plan that could require substantial public investment.
Members encouraged continued data collection using Placer analytics to measure draw and origin of event attendees and suggested joint discussion with the city council. Several directors said they favored a phased or limited-service hotel and a multipurpose space rather than a full-service hotel, and they asked staff to evaluate maintenance cost impacts and long-term debt implications before selecting a recommended option.
