Public Works reports rising snow costs, phases DPW facility work

Bruce Williams, Director of Public Works, reviewed the department’s capital and operating activity. He said the town funded $1.699 million for FY 24/25 projects, spent $1.143 million to date and has a remaining balance of $556,000 for work this spring. He told the council snow-removal costs for FY 24/25 rose to $214,083 after five additional snow events and that household hazardous waste and landfill permit fees are increasing.
On DPW facility planning he said $25,000 has been approved for conceptual design and $450,000 was appropriated for phase one while another $450,000 remains unfunded; he suggested delaying the remaining phase for a year if other town-building work needs priority. Council members asked about pulling funding from other capital items or advancing pavement work for Arch Road (estimated $900,000) and requested survey and crosswalk planning for connectivity.
