Glenn Grube, Library Director, outlined the library’s staffing and collection requests, saying "we did request an additional youth librarian in this budget request" and that the library is seeking a full-time teen librarian and a 25-hour reference librarian. He noted an increase of $2,000 in the collection budget and said Sunday hours have been offered seasonally for about 25 years.
Council members signaled support for the library’s community role while also noting budget constraints. Mrs. Barthel cited an industry benchmark that public libraries typically spend about 11% of operating budgets on collections; the library’s request equates to approximately 10.3% of its operating budget. The Town Manager and Chairman Polhamus asked how vacancies or a hiring freeze would affect service; Mr. Grube said the two vacant positions would affect operations "pretty significantly."
