The Groundswell Community Project will continue with four more community paint days at Walton Playground through Aug. 6, reporter Ava McGinty said. The sessions are part of a summer initiative that organizers said will result in 12 murals across the city.
The reporter conveyed organizers' framing that the paint days are intended to let neighborhood residents and young people "have their identities be seen" in the murals and to provide opportunities for residents to participate directly in creating public art. The reporter added that the combined murals will cover nearly 10,000 square feet.
The event drew participants who helped paint during the session and residents who said the activity strengthened community ties, the reporter said. The Groundswell Community Project did not provide sign-up details in the transcript.
