Council schedules special sessions to interview city manager candidates, extends current manager's contract 30 days

On Jan. 27 the council approved a series of special meetings to interview candidates for the City Manager position: Jan. 29 (6:00 p.m.), Feb. 2 (6:00 p.m.) and Feb. 9 (6:00 p.m.). Mr. Walker moved each scheduling motion and Mr. Albaugh seconded; each passed on a roll-call vote recorded as all ayes. Council then approved a motion to extend City Manager Jim Mavromatis’ contract by 30 days if necessary; that motion also passed unanimously.
The council held an executive session during the meeting to consider the appointment, employment and compensation of a public employee (the city manager search). No final hire was announced in the public record; the special meetings will be used for candidate interviews and next steps in the hiring process.
