Parent urges more honors and college-prep STEM classes for high-achieving students

Nathan Menar spoke during public comment to thank a third-grade teacher who he said transformed his children's academic trajectories and to ask the board to keep high-achieving students in mind while budgeting for programs and staff.
"I just I I feel like there's opportunities for us, especially in sciences... don't forget the kids that are doing really well," Menar said, adding that his children went on to attend Michigan and Michigan State and that some peers in other districts have access to many more honors classes. He asked the board to consider expanding honors and college-prep offerings as budget and capital discussions proceed.
Board members and the Superintendent acknowledged the comment and said the district would consider curricular needs as part of broader discussions about programs and staffing during budget deliberations.
