Board adopts small wording change to concussion protocol to include physical-education class

The board approved a small but deliberate clarification to the district concussion protocol to make clear that removal from activity applies not only to practices and games but also to physical-education classes when a concussion is suspected. The policy-reading noted the addition of the words "or class" where the protocol describes suspected concussion during practice or a game.
"The change that is made, it says a student must be removed from any practice game, and the new part is for physical education class if they had a concussion during the concussion protocol," the superintendent read to the board and noted the amendment provides clarity for class-based scenarios. The board moved to adopt the policy series (2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 series with one exception for policy 5712 on concussion awareness) and approved it by voice vote.
