Cedar Hill ISD board approves 2026–2027 Student Code of Conduct with emphasis on communication and supports

The Cedar Hill ISD board unanimously approved the 2026–2027 Student Code of Conduct after a presentation from Executive Director of Student Services John Edmonds.
Edmonds told trustees the district will focus on consistent family communication, campus-level leadership coordination (principals, assistant principals, counselors), documentation of accommodations (including 504 plans and medically necessary exceptions), and ensuring instruction continues during in-school or out-of-school removals. "We want them in front of the teacher first-time instruction," Edmonds said when describing efforts to preserve instructional time during alternative placements. Edmonds also noted a procedural change allowing staff to review suspensions for up to 10 days in certain cases and outlined STRIVE/DAP virtual alternatives for students removed from campuses. The board moved to approve the code as presented and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff said the handbook will include more detailed implementation guidance for families and that HR and campus leadership will return more materials as the district refines procedures.
