Summary
Staff told the council a proposed roof sign is necessary because the building retains a residential low roof form that limits standard façade-mounted signage; staff recommended approval without conditions.

Planning staff described an application to allow a roof sign on a small commercial building that retains its original residential low roof form after conversion to commercial use. Staff said the building’s small footprint and lack of a traditional commercial façade limit visibility of a monument sign and create a hardship for business identification.
"Applicant is seeking the roof sign to provide additional business identification," staff said, and recommended approval of the variance with no conditions. No members of the public spoke in opposition during the work session; the council did not finalize a vote during the work session.
