The board heard the first reading of the FY budget and accepted the monthly financial report in a voice vote.
"General funds ending balance, July 31, right at $51,500,000 for the 10th month of the year, equating to a 6.5 months reserve," the finance presenter stated. Godwin reviewed investments, net income from investment programs (about $460,000) and money market income (about $1.4M). He said the district expects roughly $117,000,000 in total revenues next fiscal year while planning to spend across funds and draw down some previously‑accumulated balances for projects.
Godwin explained the state‑formatted budget exhibits, the required salary schedules (teachers, certain specialty teachers, school nurses), and how the foundation program and enrollment counts determine earned units and staffing. He noted a small year‑over‑year enrollment change and explained the district's reliance on targeted state and federal program allocations such as Title I, special education and transportation.
The first reading generated no formal action on the budget itself; the board scheduled a second reading next week. The finance presentation included line‑item highlights such as transportation allocations, capital outlay beginning balances (about $11.3M) and an $8.5M advancement/technology balance that will be used for planned projects.
