Council discussed a private water and sewer line insurance program and vendor availability.
Ms. Hoover told council the program currently shows "279 residents that have a total of 572 service plans," and that "they've had 42 completed, covered repairs since the launch, which was an estimated savings of $69,420 to those local residents." She said the insurance provider has paid royalties to the city of a little over $3,000, which have been deposited into the general fund.
Hoover said the city should review the vendor list because only one company has been servicing the area for some claims and several licensed local plumbers chose not to join the program. City Manager Jim Mavromatis said contractors must be certified by the state and licensed in the city to be on the vendor list and that the city can permit out‑of‑state contractors if they meet local licensing requirements. "It's a matter of being certified by the state and licensed in our city," Mavromatis said.
Hoover asked staff to explore ways to recruit additional contractors — including possible cross‑state arrangements with nearby West Virginia firms — and offered to forward the provider's list to the manager for review. Council did not take formal action on the program at the Jan. 20 meeting.
