The Lewistown City Commission approved the second reading of Ordinance No. 1774 on Nov. 3, adopting the 2021 International Fire Code into local law.
City Manager Holly Phelps told commissioners the ordinance aligns Lewistown’s fire code with the State of Montana; she noted the city may adopt provisions that are more restrictive than the state but cannot be less restrictive. Commissioner Spika moved to approve the second reading and Commissioner Buehler seconded; the roll call vote was unanimous.
The minutes record no substantive amendments to the existing local code beyond the update to the newer model code; the City Attorney was authorized to codify the ordinance.
