Board approves midyear budget amendments, transfers and several purchases

In a set of action votes, the board approved administrative amendments to the 2025-26 general budget and the capital-improvement budget and authorized a $180,000 transfer from general funds into capital project savings. Finance staff (speaker 6) had warned the board that revenue is roughly 3% higher than budgeted—largely from enrollment increases of about 20 students—but expenditures are running about 4% above the July baseline, and the district plans to use roughly $800,000 of fund balance, reducing reserves from about 38% to just above 30%.
The board also approved several recommended purchases and agreements by voice vote: replacement of the BCHS fire alarm control panel and loop 1 for $40,528; an elementary furniture purchase from Custer Inc. for $274,499; and a letter agreement with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan to provide high-school and middle-school nursing services for 2026–27. Finally, the board adopted a resolution authorizing issuance of the 2025 School Building and Sites Bond Series 2; the board accepted the administrative recommendation and adopted the resolution as presented.
