The Fenton Downtown Development Authority approved a $3,500 grant to the Dibbleville Merchants to support "Witches Night Out," which organizers said draws hundreds of people downtown and helps fundraise for local firefighters. Karen Piacentini, owner of Fenton's Open Book and co-chair of the event, described the grant request as intended to cover advertising and merchandise.
Piacentini told the board that the money requested "goes for advertising and merchandise" and that the event brings hundreds of attendees; Michael Hart added she also uses the event to raise funds for Fenton Firefighters. The motion to approve the recommendation (not to exceed $3,500) was made by Steffey, supported by Abraham, and carried by voice vote with no opposing votes.
The DDA did not attach additional conditions to the grant in the motion. Organizers may use the funds for promotional materials and event merchandise, and they indicated the event contributes to both business visibility downtown and local charitable fundraising.
