Library to place 220‑book lending machine at high school, no cost to district

Monica Peck, director of the Boyne District Library (speaker 12), told the board the library plans to place a 220-capacity lending machine at the high school to increase student access to books and to allow holds placed through the shared catalog to be retrieved onsite. Peck said the program requires no cost to the school and is funded through a mix of Friends of the Library fundraising and a Carnegie Corporation grant used for the project.
Peck gave usage statistics to illustrate need: "right now, we have 1,354 students with EDU cards," she said, and reported 6,009 student circulations and 7,045 bookmobile visits in 2025. Fred Goodman of International Library Services (speaker 13) demonstrated kiosk functionality, including card scanning, browsing, and check-in. Board members raised practical concerns—where to relocate high-school composite photos—and were told the composites can be moved a few feet to accommodate the machine.
