Board adopts Portrait of a Rambler after eight-month stakeholder process

The Boyne City Public Schools Board adopted the district—s Portrait of a Rambler after administrators and consultants summarized an eight-month development process that included 429 survey respondents, stakeholder retreats, student listening sessions and staff professional development.
Christie Teal, an education consultant, described how the work narrowed an initial list of competencies to six priority competencies that the district will use as guideposts for curriculum and strategic planning. "They were, spot on with communication, adaptability, collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking," Teal said of student input, and she explained the decision to select "compassion" as the sixth competency because it is action-oriented and more measurable.
The Chair moved to adopt the Portrait of a Rambler document; the motion (moved by Sarah and seconded by Joel) passed on a voice vote. Administrators said the district will use the competencies during teacher conferences, professional development and curriculum review, and staff will convene building-level inventories in February to identify initial implementation steps.
