Board hears timing for elementary addition and renovation; renovations delayed until students are out

District consultants told the board that while the elementary addition design effort will begin in early 2026, interior renovation work cannot start until the school is empty, so much of the renovation will be scheduled for the summer months and could extend into 2028.
Evan (Bartimello) explained the sequencing: "The addition portion will be happening, as soon as possible in '27 over that summer starting in that summer, wrapping up the following of '28. But then we can't take over the construction, that renovation of North Shaw Elementary until the kids are out of school." Board members discussed the operational complexity and tight timelines that will be needed to complete renovations while minimizing disruption.
Consultants noted some interior work (new windows, bathroom renovations and office improvements) is already partially complete and that careful planning and multiple summer windows—similar to previous middle-school work—will be required. The team said they expect to present further design and cost updates after estimating and value-engineering reviews.
