Museum group says $50,000 city stipend mostly spent; asks council to fund urgent plaster repairs

She said most planned work was completed, that $18,000 remained in a short‑term CD, and that ongoing repairs now require attention.
Schildhauer said a previously listed $18,000 repair estimate for interior plaster work increased to $21,000 when contractors submitted bids. She explained the building’s quartzite construction requires plaster rather than sheetrock, a craft she said is scarce and expensive. The society is asking the council to consider moving forward now rather than delay for additional fundraising because construction costs are rising. Schildhauer also cited HVAC concerns and said the society would like $12,000 to address humidity and furnace issues over time.
Councilors clarified that some water damage was tied to replaced windows and asked about roof and downspout repairs; Schildhauer confirmed those items had been addressed and that volunteer and donated labor will help offset costs. The society invited volunteers and said it will continue pursuing grants alongside the council’s support request.
