He contrasted MAP/NWEA growth, which appeared average, with STAR outcomes that did not yet reflect that growth for lower‑performing students and said the district must accelerate growth beyond one year of progress.
Trustees pressed for detail on campus‑level performance and subgroup results; one trustee said the presentation made sense and helped explain differences across student groups. Another trustee replied that while growth exists, “the student didn't grow” to the level required by STAR, underscoring the board's concern that year‑to‑year growth may not be sufficient to move low performers into grade‑level proficiency.
Staff said the presentation included district MAP and early STAR data and emphasized the district will set campus‑specific targets and teacher‑level strategies to raise overall outcomes. The presentation set the stage for later conversations about interventions, instructional coaching and schedule changes that staff say are needed to meet board goals.
