Committee discusses rain garden upkeep, Offal Pits cleanup and resident clearing of downed trees

Assistant Conservation Agent Georgianna Minenna told the committee that a rain garden at the existing Tree Farm Landing entrance has not been maintained; Chair Megan Hickey asked whether a maintenance plan exists and Penella said he would investigate.
During open forum, Lauren McLane described a fallen tree across a trail at Cranberry Watershed Preserve that a resident had moved to clear the path. Agent Penella said there is no formal structure for granting permission for residents to clear fallen trees but anyone may call the office and staff will give verbal permission to cut the tree away; he added that removal of wood off-site is not permitted. Heath Emberg noted there are benefits to leaving some downed trees in place to deter ATV use.
Penella also said he wants an additional cleanup at the Offal Pits area of Camp Nekon because new litter has accumulated since the last major cleanup.
