Lewistown leaders back Main Street grant application to update downtown master plan

The Lewistown City Commission on Oct. 20 voted unanimously to allow Snowy Mountain Development Corporation to submit a Montana Main Street grant application on behalf of the City and the Lewistown Downtown Association to fund an updated downtown master plan.
City Manager Holly Phelps said the plan is the "next logical step" identified in the city's growth policy and that the City participates in the Montana Main Street program. Snowy Mountain Development's Cathy Barta told commissioners the Tax Increment Finance District approved a $20,000 match to support the grant application.
Commissioners discussed which geographic boundary should define the Main Street district; Phelps recommended using the city's TIF boundary so the program area aligns with existing local investment. Snowy Mountain Development would assist the City and Downtown Association with quarterly reporting and invoice submission if the grant is awarded.
The application is due Nov. 14, and the Commission's vote allows the organization to file the draft application with city certification. The item passed with a unanimous roll-call vote.
