Avon accepts DEEP trail grant and approves $107,000 in Fisher Meadows equipment purchases

Council recommended that the Board of Finance amend the FY24/25 budget to accept a $114,412 Recreational Trails Grant from the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) to fund amenities on Avon’s section of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail.
Separately, Council recommended an appropriation of up to $107,000 from the Fisher Meadows/Fisher Old Farms Special Revenue Fund to purchase a robotic line painter ($50,000), an Ovis mower ($32,000) and a switch stand-on mower ($25,000). Assistant Town Manager said the Fisher Meadows fund is primarily supported by the Town’s lease with Connecticut Water Company and farm leases and currently holds over $1 million. Councilors said the new equipment should reduce outsourced maintenance and staff hours.
Council also approved Community Events Grants to the Avon Soccer Club ($7,500) and Avon Youth Lacrosse ($2,612) to support tournament public-safety, ambulance and referee costs, and approved a motor-vehicle tax refund of $2,336.15 to Ari Fleet Lt Ltd.
