Planning staff preview zoning regulation revisions; public hearing set for March 11

Hiram Peck, Director of Planning and Community Development, and Robert Collins of consulting firm SLR presented an overview of draft zoning regulation revisions intended to reorganize and modernize Avon’s zoning code. Key changes described included new definitions (including clarification of the term “character”), consolidated use tables, site development standards, dark‑sky‑consistent outdoor lighting rules, and a new abutter notification procedure requiring notice to owners within 100 feet and a sign on the property posted 14 days prior to a hearing.
Planning & Zoning Commission Chair Lisa Levin said the revisions will improve clarity and transparency; she noted Avon would be the only town in the Farmington Valley to add such an abutter-notice provision. A Planning & Zoning Commission public hearing on the draft was scheduled for March 11 at 7:00 p.m., and staff encouraged Council and residents to submit comments ahead of that meeting.
