Avon Council OKs $50,000 contract extension for fire facilities design

Chairman Polhamus announced the Town Council voted to extend Tecton Architects’ design contract by up to $50,000 to fund additional conceptual design work for Avon Volunteer Fire Department facilities.
Assistant Town Manager said the work will include interactive stakeholder workshops to produce a prioritized list of needs that will be paired with debt modeling to identify feasible project scopes and costs. She told the Council there is an existing capital appropriation with a remaining balance of approximately $262,000 and that the original Tecton contract of about $175,000 has been spent.
Ms. Ausiello, who moved the contract extension, said the request is for conceptual design work and noted the $250,000 figure requested for FY25/26 is not currently included in the proposed capital budget; she said the extension will bring total architectural spending to roughly $225,000 of the $400,000 appropriated to date. “This is the conceptual design phase and will depend on what type of project moves forward,” she said.
Mrs. Bratton pressed for caution, questioning whether more soft costs should be expended before completing debt modeling. Jim Speich, AVFD Building Committee Chair, urged parallel work so the Building Committee can begin prioritizing items while the financial analysis proceeds. The motion passed unanimously.
