Avon Council accepts conservation easement for 275/279 West Main Street

The Avon Town Council unanimously voted to accept a conservation easement over portions of 275 and 279 West Main Street, parcels 4540275 and 4540279, after a public hearing opened and closed during the Jan. 9 meeting. Chairman Polhamus waived formal reading of the public notice and the council approved the acceptance motion following a brief explanation from Planning staff and a resident question about what a conservation easement entails.

Hiram Peck, Director of Planning and Community Development, said the property contains multiple environmental constraints and that the easement will be mapped in accordance with plans submitted to the Planning & Zoning Commission. "This property has a stream that runs through it, a sewer line that runs next to the stream, a series of wetlands on the property, and a vernal pool in the rear of the property," Peck said, describing why the easement is intended to limit over-development and protect environmental features. The council approved the acceptance motion without roll-call dissent; the vote to open and close the hearing and to accept the easement was recorded as unanimous among members present.
