Avon approves $375,200 appropriation recommendation and awards $528,847 contract to fix drainage at New Road

The Avon Town Council on Dec. 5 reviewed a storm-drainage problem that has repeatedly impacted properties at 197 and 198 New Road and voted to move the project forward with funding and a contract award.
Town Engineer Larry Baril described recurring failures in a paved swale where runoff from Deepwood Drive travels down New Road and onto private property; temporary repairs have been made but long-term piping is likely required. Council favorably recommended (to the Board of Finance) a supplemental appropriation not to exceed $375,200 from the General Fund assigned for capital reserve to finance the repairs.
Council then awarded a contract for the drainage improvement project to T & A Construction, Inc. of Pawling, N.Y., in an amount not to exceed $528,847.50.
Why it matters: The drainage failures have damaged private property and produce recurring repair costs; the contract award and appropriation set the project for construction and long-term stabilization of the swale and conveyance.
