Council approves grant agreement to boost local voter participation

Stafford’s city council unanimously approved a resolution to enter a grant agreement with the National Civic League’s Local Policy Lab to support a voter participation project in the city.
Laura Wood of the Local Policy Lab told council the group first worked with Stafford in 2024 and said the partnership helped increase turnout compared with 2020. ‘‘We are interested again in partnering with you this year to try to push that number even higher and make sure that more eligible Stafford residents know about elections and understand what their options are and make their plan to make their voice heard,’’ Wood said. Council Member 12 moved to approve the agreement; the motion passed with no recorded opposition.
The resolution authorizes staff to accept the grant and continue nonpartisan outreach work; staff said they would return if substantive terms change. Council framed the measure as a continuation of the city’s recent voter-engagement efforts and thanked city staff who worked on outreach.
