County raises tipping fee to fund new transfer-station scale; Kingsford manager flags local impacts

City Manager Michael Stelmaszek told the council that the scale at the city transfer station is in serious need of replacement. He reported that at the February 17 Dickinson County Solid Waste Management Authority meeting the FY2026 budget included funding for a new scale; to pay for it the county increased the tipping fee from $90 to $95 and raised the minimum user fee from $5 to $10, effective March 1.
Stelmaszek said the replacement cost would be substantial and that he intends to bring bids to council at a future meeting. The minutes record the county fee changes as the funding source; the council did not act on a city-level procurement at the March 2 meeting.
