Judge Hart opened a special session of the Harney County Court to update residents on the county's wildfire response, describing active incident management and local sheltering.
"We've opened up a shelter that's been manned by the Red Cross and Crane at the Crane School dormitories," Judge Hart said, and encouraged residents to attend a community meeting that evening for incident managers to answer questions.
Officials told the court that national teams are rotating in to manage major fires and that roughly six air resources were assigned to the area but have been limited by visibility and wind. Judge Hart estimated local acreage "I think we're over 300,000 acres, you know, plus," and cited a statewide total of roughly 1.7 million acres burned as of a day earlier.
The court emphasized mutual-aid support from state and federal agencies and international crews and urged residents to rely on county public information channels for updates.
