Senate refers scores of House and Senate files to committees, including public safety and licensing measures

The Senate announced formal referrals of a large package of bills to committee on Feb. 24, sending a set of House files reported passed on Feb. 23 and numerous Senate files to Ways and Means, Appropriations, State Government and Commerce for further consideration. The presiding officer listed House File 2199 and dozens of Senate files and directed clerk and committee staff to process them.
The secretary read a partial list of the House-passed bills, including “House file 2199, a bill for an equity level 2 law enforcement academy training programs,” and the chamber then referred Senate files — for example, Ways and Means received Senate Files 2213, 2294 and others while Appropriations received files 2315 and 2388. Committee referral is a procedural step that determines which measures receive hearings and votes; no floor debate on the bills occurred during this session.
