Lakota superintendent touts AP gains: more exams and higher pass rates

Superintendent Dr. Ashley Whiteley presented the district's Advanced Placement (AP) results to the board, saying the district has seen a five‑year upward trend in both course enrollment and exams taken. "We took 174 more exams this year than the previous year," Whiteley said, and she reported that 87% of those exams earned scores that qualify for college credit (a score of 3 or higher).
Whiteley noted particular successes in newer AP offerings: AP precalculus (a relatively new course in the AP program) and the first offering of AP calculus in the district, where she reported exceptionally strong average scores and a 100% pass rate in one cited example. She credited teachers, the curriculum and instruction department and students for the results and noted AP scores can translate into Ohio State test scores and potential cost savings for families.
Board members and community representatives thanked the curriculum team and emphasized that growth in AP enrollment had not come at the expense of College Credit Plus (CCP) options. "Seven of our AP courses outperformed the global average... by over 10%," Whiteley said, adding AP statistics exceeded the global average by more than 20 percentage points.
The superintendent also noted that the curriculum team leadership is shifting, with Lori Brown handing off to Becky Tompkins, and she thanked staff member Justin Wilson for data preparation.
