Residents raise dust and asbestos worries; committee highlights watering practice

At the start of public comment Tami Pitman voiced concern that dust from the park could contain airborne asbestos. Linda Clark urged that residences within three miles of the park be supplied with purifiers or ventilators because of dust exposure.
The committee addressed dust concerns in committee comments. Brad Harris reiterated that "the track is thoroughly watered every time it is in operation" in response to public worries about dust. Later in the meeting Maryan Hollis again expressed concern about the park's proximity to residential properties; Commissioner Debra Strickland and Chair Jimmy Lewis noted maps showing proximity have been shared previously at Board of County Commissioners meetings and that published site distances remain as in the original plans.
The committee did not adopt any new mitigation measures at this meeting but acknowledged public concern and recorded the issue for future consideration as the project proceeds.
