The Board of Public Works and Safety reviewed several special-event requests tied to the upcoming Festival of the Lakes and recommended approval for pyrotechnic and fireworks displays and related street closures. The special events coordinator requested a commercial fireworks display (vendor: Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions) on Wolf Lake Memorial Park and pyrotechnics during a July 16 Jelly Roll performance (vendor: Pyrotech Special Effects Inc.). A board member recommended approval and the Chair concurred on both items.
The board also recommended approval of thoroughfare closures for the Festival of the Lakes from July 15 through July 21, 2026, while deferring one church-related block closure request until next week for further investigation into whether activities would be conducted on the street or contained to church property. "The completion date currently for this project is the middle of August...Not a good time to plant," a project representative said about a separate change-order item; on event requests, board members focused on safety and coordination with police for parade permits.
