Hammond BZA reschedules two Wallace Road hearings after missing certified-mail receipts

The chair introduced petitions Z26-08 and Z26-09 for 6103 and 6105 Wallace Road. Staff explained the city paid for and sent 119 certified letters covering the two cases but could not match 13 of the white postal receipt slips to tracking numbers. The board attorney told members: "The lack of being able to prove that all the required property owners were sent notice, would indicate that there's no proof of publication, and you cannot proceed with the public hearing of that." He recommended the applicants re-send notices and provide proof of mailing for the next hearing.
A board member moved to reschedule the hearings to the board's next meeting; the motion carried on a roll call vote. Staff said the city will re-send letters for both cases and confirm mailings before the next hearing. Members and staff also encouraged interested neighbors to leave contact information so they can receive direct notice when hearings are re-scheduled.
