Commission waives penalties and interest for resident's delinquent property taxes

"My mother is a 57 year old widow who has been disabled for several years," Rayhall said, describing limited income and hardship and asking the county to waive penalties and interest so the family could pay the principal in a lump sum.
The county treasurer reported the account was delinquent for 2023 and 2024 with a total owing of $5,719.42 and penalties and interest amounting to $635.59, leaving the principal at approximately $5,100. Commissioners voted to waive penalties and interest and instructed the auditor's office to provide application paperwork for any applicable relief (including a circuit-breaker program) and to assist the family in completing any necessary forms.
The motion to waive penalties and interest on account R0027408 passed by voice vote; the commission asked staff to coordinate the paperwork and follow through with the payment process.
