County approves easement to protect Willard Canyon Trail from mining impacts

An agreement to grant a trail easement that relocates the Willard Canyon Trail out of active gravel‑mining areas was presented by county counsel and approved by the commission.
Attorney Steve Hadfield described the collaborative effort with the Wells family, Willard City and the contractor to move the trail out of harm’s way, add signage and formalize maintenance and enforcement arrangements. “This is an easement which moves the trail out of harm's way,” Hadfield said, noting Willard City had placed signage. Commissioner Perry moved to approve Agreement 25‑74; Commissioner Vincent seconded and commissioners voted 'Aye.'
County staff said the easement may be adjusted again in the future as the trail shift is finalized, and the recorder reviewed the grant of easement before the vote.
